In August, Leisure World took a day trip aboard the Goodtime I to Put in Bay (South Bass) from Kelleys Island. What a great trip!! You will hear all about all of the little islands in Lake Erie. Plus you get time to visit the sites and stores on Put-in-Bay before returning to our beautiful Kelleys Island. Check out the departure times on the dock opposite THE VILLAGE PUMP!!!

This is the Ford Boat House located on Put-in Bay. People actually live here and it has been featured on HGTV’s Extreme Homes.

When you are visiting Put-in-Bay, make sure you check out the Oliver Perry Monument like we did. Unfortunately I am not sure you will be able to go to the top because I believe they are updating it and doing maintenance to it. It still is s wonderful site (and great spot for pictures).

Sandusky, Ohio is often referred to as The Roller Coast. Situated on the shores of Lake Erie, it is home to Cedar Point Amusement Park. The park features a world-record 72 rides, including 16 roller coasters. But we’ll get to Cedar Point in a moment.

Sandusky is also home to numerous indoor and outdoor water parks, unique museums, sandy beaches, abundant dining, and offers all the shopping you need to make yourself at home for a while.

Waterfront districts in downtown Sandusky have been revitalized to offer shopping, dining and live entertainment throughout the year and restaurants offering boat dockage make getting there half of the fun.

A visit to Sandusky just isn’t complete without visiting  Cedar Point, a 365-acre amusement park located on a Lake Erie peninsula. It is the only amusement park in the world with four roller coasters taller than 200 feet! The normal operating season runs May through Labor Day after which they remain open on weekends for their famous HalloWeekends.

Marblehead, Ohio is home to the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes.

The lighthouse is part of the 9-acre (3.6 ha) Marblehead Lighthouse State Park. The park features picnic tables and offers views of Lake Erie, Sandusky Bay,Kelleys Island and South Bass Island. The Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society operates the Marblehead Lighthouse Museum in the old keeper’s house. Exhibits include the lighthouse, a Fresnel lens, ice harvesting, ice fishing, local maritime industry, ships, local fossils and shipwrecks. Visitors can take tours of the lighthouse tower in the summer.

For a relaxed day on Put-In-Bay, take a walk or ride to Perry’s International Peace Memorial where you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Erie from the top of Perry’s Monument, a history lesson about the War of 1812 and possibly even a reenactment or memorial service.

A ride on the merry-go-round in downtown Put-In-Bay will make you feel like a kid again and gem mining is an adventurous way to collect a souvenir from your Lake Erie vacation.

Festivals and celebrations throughout the season include the annual Sailing Regatta, Christmas in July, Winefest and Octoberfest.

Ferry service from Port Clinton will get you to Put-In-Bay and when it is time to relax and unwind ferry service from Put-In-Bay will get you to Kelleys Island in just minutes.

While golf carts and bikes are available for rental at various locations on Put-In-Bay, most places you’ll want to visit can easily be reached on foot. It is not recommended that you bring your car to Put-In-Bay Island.

Kelleys Island is accessible year round via ferry (weather permitting) from Marblehead or by air from Sandusky and Port Clinton. Seasonal ferry service throughout the summer allows Kelleys Island vacationers to island hop to Put-in-Bay as well as easily reach Port Clinton, Lakeside-Marblehead and Sandusky for mainland sight seeing and activities.

You can transport your car to the island on the Kelleys Island Ferry but most people prefer to bring along their bikes. Bicycles and golf carts can also be rented while visiting Kelleys Island.

Transient dockage can be found at Kelleys Island marinas if you’ll be arriving by private boat.
